Totness & Laratinga

Went for a wander yesterday to Totness Reserve & Laratinga Wetlands.

Though very hot there were still enough birds around to make the trip worthwhile.

Finch and Thornbill at Totness the rest at a fast drying out Laratinga.

I had never heard of Totness Reserve. What is it like?

I'm looking for some more areas around Adelaide.

Hi AJS,

It's a small reserve just a few minutes out of Mount Barker on the Old Mount Barker rd, Milne Rd entrance.

Only a small reserve but a nice variety of birds.

Red Browed Finches, Superb Wrens, Striated Thornbills, various Honeyeaters and saw a Mistletoe bird yesterday but didn't get a decent shot.

Basically it's a small track around the edge of the lake with some associated woodland.

There is another section of the reserve on the other side of the freeway that is a little harder to access, have only been once for a short time but looks promising.

You can actually get to it via a stormwater culvert running from the lake side under the freeway but it is a fair distance to walk doubled over and my back was killing by the time I got there. let alone the return.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all for your comments. A couple of nice spots close to home.

Also good feeling to get some nice results when conditions aren't so good.
