Tropical North Queensland

Here are some photos from my visit to Tropical North. Didn't have a lot of time for birds, as we had to drive a lot. So most of the birds are just residents of the caravan parks where we stayed. However, I don't see them here around Melbourne so it was very exciting for me anyway.

Channel-billed Cuckoo

Australian Brushturkey

Metallic Starling

Torresian Imperial Pigeon

Peaceful Dove

Bush thick-knee

Chestnut-breasted Mannikin

Helmeted Friarbird

The only thing I am upset about a little, is that I didn't see the Cassowary. Oh well, I have a reason to go there again :)

Great photos Laurius, the 3rd one of the Spangled Drongo(I think) is superb!

Great photos, Laurius.

I'm pretty sure the 3rd one is a Spangled Drongo, not a Metallic starling.

The "fish" tail and the red eye are giveaways.

Thanks.

But I still believe that the 3rd one is Metallic starling :) The tail... well it's hard to tell. But the fact, that the one in the 3rd photo was hanging around with the one below makes me think that it's not a Drongo.

Actually, I agree after a second look - apologies Laurius, I didn't realise quite how similar they are.

The green/purple tinge looks more typical of starling photos than the drongos I've seen.

I didn't read the name tag at all,and I actually have never heard of a Metallic starling - but after looking at a few photos of it online,I think you're right about it being a starling - I don't get either of those birds where I am.

I think the same Nathan and Laurius. I looked at a fair few photos, and think it is a Metallic Starling.
