Trying out my new camera (Sony SLT a37 with DT 70-200 kit lens)

Playing around with a new camera, no where near top of the range, but the best I will have for a long time. There were many Super Fairy Wrens today, still trying to sneak up, getting better. A couple of days ago next to the Huon River, south of Hobart, young Silver Gull, not so young Silver gull, Eurasion Coots, and 1 with the river background.

Congratulations , you are going to have sooo much fun. I love them all, but No6 shows what the camera can do, it is very hard to focus if you have a background like you have in that photo. I am looking forward to many more great photos. Are you using AF, or Manual? Your Sony + Sony lens, will do a fantastic job on AF. Once you get to know the camera, you'll be flyinglaugh

Thanks ML, using autofocus, my eyes aren't good enough to focus manually. Can see improvement already (taken 100's but deleting most) but am struggling with all the different options, so using sports mode autofocus for the time being, and practicing on stationary objects as well. Bought the camera in error, put in a ridiculous bid (not eBay) and won!! Still glad I did, now just need to find more time and wait for some better weather.

That's what I use "most" of the time. The best option. I think cameras these days, are so clever, they do a great job by themselves. (a lot like cars these days, my new car does everything, I only have to drivewink, a beep here a beep there, a camera, the lights come on, the whipers work on their own.....and, and)

I'm very happy for you !!!
