I read somewhere recently that it is best to transfer files by the camera-computer lead - do you want ot buy a 2nd hand reader?

hello ,safeway/woolworth have them for about $20 ,i was getting them from dick smith but they seam to bend the pins easy ,had the one i have for awhile now ,bruce
Alan, the reason for using the camera's lead to the computer is that handling of the card is reduced and also the likelihood of damaging the card.

I've recently bought a Panasonic Lumix FZ-200 to cart around in my backpack to work etc. and I (not 10 minutes ago) whipped out the card, stuffed it into the slot on my touchscreen and happily downloaded all the pics by just dragging them into the folder. My bad.
But it was soooo easy.

Bending pins can only happen with CF card. Not may cameras have CF 95% are SD and there are no pins to damage. Cheapie readers have soft pins,is par for course. Have CF then buy good reader or buy computer with inbuilt card readers? ad
I have 3 camera bodies -
Canon 550D - SD card only
Canon 5D Mark II - CF card only
Canon 1D Mark IV - SD & CF cards
and I know that the Canon 350D had CF card ? only
maybe 95% is an exaggeration

My Canon 60D has a CF card. I paid around $650US for a 1GB card for it. (it was actually a mini IBM hard disk).
My Canon EOS 5D Mark iii has a CF card. I paid around $600A for a 64GB card (1000X). Would not want to damage that!
and that is why carry the camera-computer lead in my camera bag

I assume this is a typo? the 60D uses SD cards.
You don't have to worry about damaging the card as it has the female conection, the pins are in the camera and card reader.
I upload straight from camera though, there is always something to do while i am waiting

I bent pins on a brand new $500 I7 motherboard while trying to install the CPU, I have also had a friend bend pins in my card-reader!
A couple of rules for using CF cards:
When not in camera store in the plastic case they came in NOT in your pocket or camera bag—have a think it will be obvious why.
When inserting card in camera or reader slide in gently USING one finger on centre back of card to push it home—again have think and you will understand why.
It seems to be a man thing I've never read of a woman having trouble with bent pins in a camera. ad.
My first CF cost me $130 for 128K yes a$ per K ad
The salesperson needs to not RIP customers OFF that is overkill for the camera & you could have gotten 2 600X for the same $$s & never notice any difference in down load speed. ad
You can only bend the pins in the body use care should not happen. Pre tethered shooting days we pulled cards in & out maybe a dozen times to check lighting & such before a shoot without any problems. ad
I am sick of waiting for Camera to write to card when buffer is full, hense the fastest card
What are you shooting in? even if RAW would be around 30meg? 600X card I would expect to be fine? ad.
