Wattle bird chick

I think its a wattle bird chick. Found at Copacabana central coast

Hi there, can I ask a question? You say , you "found" this chick, what makes you think it was "lost" in the first place?

This happens every breeding season. People think the chick sitting somewhere, calling for a parent, is lost or abandoned. The parent will be close by or out to find food. Most likely she is sitting in a tree watching you. ( I'm not saying this was so in your case )

But , unless the bird is injured or in danger to get attacked by a cat or dog, or run over by cars, it should be left where it is. Parents leave their young for long periods of time. They will come back.

Anyway, if it's still alive, the best for the bird would be to hand it over to an experienced wildlife carer.

(hope I haven't offended you?)

You havent .  I am a volunteer for a rescue group and it was handed into a vet.  It has a healing injury on its leg and its very very thin,. I just didnt want to bring in the rescue group. And I am its carer. its feeding well ATM . Adults I am good at but chi8cks in transition I am still figuring.

That is great news Lee.  I know you understand what I was trying to say before. So many people, although well meaning, do a lot of harm to birds (and other wildlife) they think needs help.

A big thank you for the good work you are doing.
