What ever it is, I don't know, but it sounds very distressed All I can hear is the CAT, probabely attacking the bird. What makes people think they can let their cats roam at night, is beyond me
I doubt there's much you can do about the appearance & calls of the channel-billed cuckoo, kaimingc. Climate change might fix it for you eventually but to avoid teeth gnashing you'll need to change your negative perspective of the bird to one of appreciating it as part of the wonderful migration of certain bird species which regularly occurs. This might well calm your mind & give you a higher quality sleep.

the cat you can hear is mine and its an indoor cat...
this was recorded this morning at 6am when i was feeding the cats.

I had my suspicions but the sound was slightly different.
I don't mind the currawong....but that bloody Channel Billed Cuckoo is a {insert bad language }
