I think its a female as there was a black bird with a green beak and red eyes hanging around. She was in the tomato patch and she was so beautiful that I couldnt shoo her away. i thought possibly a satin bower bird as they hang aroudn the national park but they eyes and the colour of the beak threw me. I got a photo of the black one but its on my Itouch and I cant up load it,
Although I have never seen one, I do think your bird would be a female Common Koel, the male is black and also has red eyes. (at least I hope I'm right)

What a clever person. I looked it up and thats them exactly. The eyes were particulary demonic, Another bird to add to the list. I photograph them all in case I forget. The male was just lovely. Unfortunately we have some very territorial and fearless noisy minahs who chased them away.
I wouldn't worry about the Koels being chased...... they are pretty cunning themselves.... remember that they lay their eggs in the other bird's ( commonly a figbird in Qld) nest and get rid of any competition for them !!! Aren't they are pretty bird though? both the female and the male are very striking.
Dont forget to tell where your sightring was when you ask for an ID :)

They were in my back yard at Macmasters Beach NSW. I had only just got my camera back. But they had been there a few times in he week prior. Just to change the subject, I had been waiting for ages to spot and photograph the white bellied sea eagle that hangs around our beach and lagoon. My camera was in getting repairs and would you beleive I saw one circling above me when I was hanging out the washing.
