This Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo was feeding on the seeds of a Southern Cypress Pine Callitris preissii on our property on the s.e. slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges SA.
Few people in my area use this tree species as part of their revegetation projects which is a pity since the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo is vulnerable in the Mt Lofty Ranges due to bushland clearance of its food plants & nesting hollows.
Hard work getting the seeds out of those cones ?
Thanks for the photo and information woko.
This individual didn't seem to have any trouble with the cones, Whistling Duck. There was lots of debris underneath the branch on which it had been sitting.
