O, how gorgeous.I have never seen one that young, but I think you are right in thinking that this is a White-faced Heron. It must be capable of flying if it's on the roof. Did you see any parents?
i saw the mother fly in for a moment but she didnt stay around , she had the little one with her on our roof and i couldnt see her properly, the last photo of the slightly bigger bird was on the antenna of a neigbours roof, there where two and they stayed there for ages.
the lighting was bad so i kept watching them hoping the light would get better and it did , i have taken some more photos of the little ones i will post.
could this be its mother and i saw a large bird ,was wondering if the male heron stays around .
they arrived at dawn and the lightning was horrible so i just watched them as the sun came up i scouted and looked for photo spots as it got lighter i took photos, then i heard a thump on our roof then i looked around and saw the baby one,

this was another bird ,,there where a few birds getting around there where two sitting together and i saw the little one sitting on a neighbours roof
