Hi guys,
Just read that 85 rare black cockatoos were killed in 8 weeks by careless drivers, isn't that disgusting? I remember always slowing down and or sounding the horn to give any bird a chance at getting away, what are these drivers doing, can't they use their common sense or are they just selfish, ignorant individuals that shouldn't be on our roads anyway, just unbelievable, shocking.
When Western Grey Kangaroos became fixtures on our property I contacted council & they quickly erected kangaroo warning signs on our roadway. I wonder if the stretch of road where the black cockatoo slaughter is occurring needs to have cockatoo warning signs. I'd even go so far as to say those warning signs need to be accompanied by speed restrictions. Too often the mighty speeding car/truck/bus/tractor/goat cart is given precedence over our wildlife.
85?!? Man thats heaps! I saw a person hit a Peregrine once, they didnt even slow down! And when they hit it they didnt even stop? How could you not realise you just hit a falcon?!
Yes unfortunately feral animals with two legs sitting in their motor vehicles roaming around couldn't be bothered slowing down or stopping, big birds like black cockatoos are slow at taking off, but the human feral animals just don't care so they drive straight through them mercilessly.
For Australian birds, natives=life, exotics=death, so do them a favour and go plant some natives and save their lives.
Gotta make that delivery, get to that appointment or Earth will cease spinning. No time to smell the Acacias or watch the cockatoos.
