female Brolga

Today I drove to Serendip, a Wetlands Sanctuary just out of Geelong, close to the You Yangs I was very lucky when this female Brolga came very close, I have seen them there a few times, but normally they stay on the far side of a lake. She was obviously calling out to a mate.

Great photos araminta - thanks for putting up these pics, I had not heard of this bird before. Must be a very impressive sight.

Great photos, you are very lucky. I have seen them at werribee zoo but I don't know if they were wild or not. If they are not wild I haven't seen any other ones. (Edit) Just looked it up and they were not wild.

I was told the Brolgas in the area around Werribee, the Treatment Plant and along the beaches there ,have all come from Serendip. They keep a few in the sanctuary, but they venture outside . It's a good thing though, they do belong to this area.So I'd call them wildyes
