A couple of weeks ago I submitted a photo of a Buff-banded Rail and this morning I paid a visit to the same area and saw the same one again, but it darted away so I went to look for it and on the way I saw another one down near a lagoon. The problem I have is this one was a lot smaller then the previous ones and the buff band on the chest was quite insignificant but did have some patches of buff colouring. In the books I have doesn't tell you what the female is like and is not clear on what a juvenile looks like, so I am wondering if someone could shed some light on this ID please.
I'm not sure that males and females are different. It appears to be an adult though. ^_^
Usually when my book doesn't show a difference between Male and Female they are usually the same , but the size was a lot smaller and the chest band seemed to be at either end instead of right across the chest. I guess i'll find out one day, thanks anyway.

It looks like a juvenile buff banded rail to me, clif2. Morcombe's: Field Guide to Australian Birds has a pic which led me to that august conclusion.
Thanks Woko I believe that would explain the size difference and slight difference in the band on the chest, I'll settle for that.
