Ironic because their calls are perhaps the furthest carrying, loudest, and most insistent ever, as well as starting before dawn and continuing after dusk. You would struggle to find anyone where they occur who have not heard of this bird. I am told there was an outcry agaist them when they first turned up to Canberra, people trying to do something about this bird which they had mistakenly assumed was introduced that was waking everyone from their sleep.

Thanks everyone, it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time! Their call sometimes sounds as if they are getting more and more frustrated, a rising register.
They are not found in WA so that's probably why Laza has not seen them.
Is there a difference between the names Common Koel and Eastern Koel?
(I wasn't able to get onto the website on the weekend, but others seem to have been able, so was it just me?)
Well done! Nice pic. Quite a stunning looking bird. Thanks for posting.
I love Koel and have not seen a female for a few years. Wonderful photo.
Excellent photo ... great find, i have only seen the female koel once a few years ago.
Wonderful looking bird, great shot.
Good work, females especially have an remarkable ability of hiding from sight, even when you know exactly where they should be

Yes you did well, often heard but relatively shy and hard to spot. There call is a bit monotonous but we don't mind them.
