The old tree stump that I have been watching over the years fell over about 6-8 weeks ago and N.P.W. built a new platform. These photos were taken in a canoe with a N.E blowing.

Great shots. The sticks they use are really big, aren't they?
Wonderful photos Darin. I have never seen the before, I'm a small birds person. Are they Osprey? (don't laugh, I know some though) Please tell me.
M-L
Yes indeed M-L they are Osprey and yes Kim they use enormous sticks. Darin isn't it great that mankind gives them a hand in situations like this? We have a few of them here on the Sunny Coast like that. Where are you again?
You did well from a canoe lol

Yes they are large sticks , N / parks started with a few branches , my mate David Whitfield said no, they would like a few paperbark branches. Its David baby , he show me the nest 10 plus years ago .UsualLy they zoom in over the dead tree tops snapping them off with out a problem . When we first paddle up the lake to check the nest , there was sticks floating in the water, so we were not sure if they had lay any eggs as yet. It's great to see them returning to the platform . A big thanks to N.P.W. for a quick response.

Yes hats off to the NPW people darin. I love that we take such care with things like this. Up here telstra is pretty good with them too as they ahve a preference for Telstra towers lol. In the heart of maroochydore, there is a tower that has had a pair of Osprey on it since before I worked in the local camera store there..and that was12 years ago. Telstra has now put a metal basket in it to contain their sticks and keep it from having to be trimmed out of their signal thingos. It is great for the camera shop as it is ideal for a line fo sight view to demo long lenses and binos!!!
Some where recently I toook a pic of an Osprey overhead with a huge bit of wood in its talons , I will try to resurrect it for this thread

This was a piece of fence post or something as you can se
e the nail still sticking out of it !!! It would be one of the shorter sticks they use

No Darin, I was walking on the beach at the time and they have a nesting platform just across the river and go out to that beach to fish as it is only about 500m from their nest
