Is it or is it not?

There was a strong wind going when these three visitors took a rest on our fence. I haven't seen this tipe of dove on our property before and wonder if I'm guessing right in saying that they are immature Bar-shouldered doves?

They are Bar-shouldered Doves. My book says the juveniles don't have the shiny bronze hind neck, so I guess they are all adults. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the prompt reply Shane,

Yes, you're right they're indeed adult Bar-shouldered Doves. I quickly googled the bird after reading your message and saw that it has the gray head (like my three) rather than a light bronze head as shown in my book.

A beautiful bird!

Another favourite bird of mine.  They were always coming into my friends yard at Mt. Cotton until the bush was destroyed so developers could build.  I hope they have found a safe new home now.

Ah developers Karen. We just gotta love them! :(

Or love to hate them.  Too many are on the local councils now and they make their own rules.

It's the same everywhere it seems - here three adjoining properties have all but been slashed and are now bare of all understorey with only a few Eucalypts left standing. It's most probably the reason that we're frequently getting new visitors!
