Today I braved the cold, and went for a walk along the Yarra River up in Warburton, even Mr&Mrs Wood Duck looked cold, and the Pacific Black Duck quickly tucked the beak under the wing.

Well done M-L, love the 2nd and 4th!
Warbuton is a great town, haven't been out there for a while.
Cheers, Owen.
"Just" ducks? Mr and Mrs Wood Duck should rightly be offended by that!
Wood ducks are gorgeous, especially the males with that chestnut head and speckled chest.
I was just trying to work out a breeding season for these guys, as I was a bit surprised to see a few around here with new chicks.
The best I could find (haven't actually checked the books yet) was on the Aus Museum site, which suggested Sept-Nov in the south and "after rain" in the North, though I'm not sure whether after rain means after a summer shower, or the end of the wet season.
Cheers

Morcombe tells me November in the south, Jan - Mar in north & any time after rain in arid areas.
