A juvenile, but what?

I'm sure this another obvious bird, but I'm still learning!  A juvenile Crake maybe.  Taken by the Glenelg River at Nelson.  Thanks.  Robin

Hmm, I'd say Juvenile Purple Swamphen ?. (could be wrong, I have only seen much junger ones, then they look different)

Could be a swamphen or a moorhen?

I like to say it is a Dusky Moorhen, as it has a undeveloped shield with greenish- black bill ..

Sorry just in case, a shield ....coots & swamp hens have them as well, just different colours to match their bills .

I did a little search, and have changed my mind. I now am convinced darinnightowl is right , I believe it's a juvenile Dusky Moorhen.I have seen photos of young looking just like the one in the photo Bridges posted.

Thank you so much all of you.  This is the best way for identification - I think I will easily find the answer in a book, but never can!  Have looked at images of a juvenile Dusky Moorhen.  Looks very similar.  Thanks again.  Bridges
