Lovely images,so much detail in these, however, they look noisy,do you use Noise Reduction in post.I can`t read your EXIF so don`t know your settings.Apart from that,#1 would be my pick,Lovely pose, super detail and well lit, maybe clone out the twig, but so nice.
Hi Kevin, we do have differences of opinions here. The twig in photo one is the most important part of my composition, I would not even think of removing any of it. You must know I come from being a Painter/ Sculptor to photography. As an Artist I might see composition a different way to others. The bird is deliberately sitting on the left side, as is the twig on the right.
None of my photos are "manipulated", I take hundreds of photos every day, and only the ones that pass my "Artist eye" will ever make it on file.
As for the noise, the birds sit infront of some dense shrubs, I have also made the decision not to get too close to the birds because I do not want to bother them while they are hard at work feeding their young. I haven't even made an attempt to have a look at the nest.
I do respect their privacy.
But I could tell you what camera and lens I use.
SONY SLT A77V and a SONY 70-400mm G lens
on pic 1 the shutter speed was 1/1000 and ISO 1250
This one is for you Kevin. Normally I wouldn't post a photo like this one because I can hear people say, but it's not in focus....., but that is exactly the kind of photo I like
Lovely work Araminta, these birds are not the easiest to photograph for me, like you I use a 400 mm lens & these bird are pretty small and far away. I agree with you on photo #1 the twig gives balance to the image though I am a purist & the shot is the shot twigs and all, if I dont like it I take another. Well done, love your work. (Nothing wrong with post if thats your thing)
I always prefer to see the birds in situ. I see the heavily manipulated shots on another website about bird photography with all the backgrounds blurred out to give the 'perfect bokeh' and just think how pointless.
I even saw one comment "I would have liked to see the bird on a better perch" and think 'what the?' The bird is where the bird is.
To me the birds are always the star of the image and seeing their behavior traits captured is a bigger thrill.
And ML.. Lovely to see your wrens again, beautifully framed as usual.
Lovely shots as always M-L ,I especially like No 4 ,its funny every one has a different veiw on P/P but in the end it all comes down to the way the photogapher wants to display there work ,as I said lovely shots and nice to see you back

Love the photos of the male, particularly, nice to see he's doing some of the heavy lifting.
Hope all is well with them too... maybe food is a bit more scarce?
