My husband thinks it's not, he says in the middle-ages they would have called me a witch and burnt me. (there probably are a few people who would love to do that to me regardless)
What I'm talking about though is , birds aren't scared of me. Just before dark, and because I hadn't taken any photos today because of the rain, I took the camera and stepped outside. This White-browed Scrubwren, came so close it almost sat on my shoe. What you see in the photo is as it came out of the camera, not cropped, it was that close.
I too have had experiences like that. Birds not afraid of me, Magpies hassling me for food and coming into the house. Wagtails that used to chatter to me and nearly land on my head. Pink and greys that I could almost touch. Made me feel 'special '
Hi M-L
I too find that small birds especially come close and sometimes so close I have to back away because they are too close to focus. What I have put it down to is because I dont want to startle the birds I make very slow movements and the birds become comfortable and dont see me as a threat. You have trained your body not to make quick movements that scare the birds. Once you have the birds confidence they will come close to capture any insects you may cause to take flight (Fantails in particular).
P.S. There is a test to see if you are a witch, we throw you in the river and if you drown you are not a witch and if you float you are a witch and we will burn you.
.........and should I sceam when the flames burn my feet, that's because the demons are escaping my evil body. (all this while the clergy is singing, and the crowd is cheering them on)
But I'm not a good swimmer, I will drown first

I have had this happen a few times with scrubwrens and robins, and even had grey fantails land on me, twice!
The first landed on my knee just for a second and I dont think he was even aware of me ,the second landed on the brim of my hat bent over and looked me in the eye like I was sitting in his spot or something.
But the most amazing was to watch a fly catcher hovering and calling from about 1.5 m ,I just sat and watched for a few minutes no camera, but it was a buzz just to watch.
just tell him that he shoulg report you to the local police station
