and, just have to tell you, I have most likely posted those before. That's how bored I am , it's too hot to go outside and take photos, so I picked some I took earlier. (I'm also listening to the Vic Fire on my scanner, on days like today, I stay home)
Ditto, Araminta. Luckily it's a fairly calm day with only two fires within 15 minutes of our place. I wish our Country Fire Service would/could include the cause of all the grass fires that have been attended to in SA today.
Have you downloaded the Incident Alert Map ? I can see all the fires around your area. They are also on : Incident Summary.
But do invest into buying a CFA Scanner, you can't get any information earlier and faster than that. (you have to stay calm and rational though, and put things into prospective. But you are that kind of guy) You hear the brigade turning out, and you will get all the information you need to make any decisions. I run it all day, we do not have mobile reception, there might not be any power, so I depend on the CFA info. I trust the CFA, same can not be said about the DSE. There were some fires very close today, all put out by local brigades very quickly. I just love them.
I used to feed information to the web, these days it's all done by others. But I still have my own system, the Scanner and a local Map. I'm faster than the internet, all the neighbours ring me from work when they get alerts on their mobiles. I can give them more details and faster too. Sorry, but I can't hear what the brigades are talking about where you live.
I have now, Araminta. Thanks so much for that. The Incident Alert Map is more comprehensive than the CFS web page so I'll muck around with the IAM to familiarise myself with it. And I'm planning to register for email alerts.
I'm not sure about a scanner. I'm overwhelmed with IT gadgetry since the family got me into an iPhone which, I must admit, is pretty darn good. (Ms Woko & I are now an iTem, we like iTalian food, i have iDiosincracies & our parliaments seem to be full of iDiots. And so iT goes.) But i'D need to get a whole lot more iNformation to make iT work.
Woko, if you really want to get Ms Woko's ire, the you should buy her I new iRon haha. You should only have to spend a few days in hospital!
Hope all goes well for everyone with fires, we are in trouble in Tassie, interstate firies arriving today. Luckily no where near us, but my work place (Ambulance Tasmania) is stretched for workers, trying to run extra crews, and getting staff into areas isolated by the fires, struggling with people who for some reason don't keep hydrated.
I have been thinking of you, and am a bit worried. I know how it feels to be extremely close to large fires. We had the last ones just behind us, with a wind change we would have had about 5 minutes to leave. We had road blocks in our street, either in, or out and not come back until after. We stayed to defend. My son's partner lives outside of Whittlesea, but didn't burn down.
I wish everyone living near any of the big fires in Tasmania the best of luck. Try to stay safe, all of us here know what you are going through.

Good luck to all

Thanks for the suggestion about a gift for Ms Woko, Dale. However, as you imply, that sort of gift might end up with me being severely iNjured.
Hope you continue to be safe from those horrendous bushfires.
Araminta, as I type Ms Woko is waxing eloquent about the Incident Alert Map website.
