It looked so promising last week, when this boy Superb Fairy Wren arrived, took over some girls .
But at the end of the day he looked exhausted and… left.
Ruby suggested that might encourage the local boys to speed up a bit. Hmm, only one male shows a little enthusiasm, and displays one single blue spot. But when I saw him sitting in a shrub, the wind exposed a few more blue feathers.
(The gorgeous "one spot male" was sitting deep inside a shrub, just where he should be.There are little branches infront of him and shadows on his face. I wouldn't dream of removing those, or turn the bird a different colour. The photo is what it is, just like in nature. Just the way I like it.)
Well said, Araminta!
Well said, Araminta!
I am in Bass Hill, western Sydney this week - should I go looking for some coloured male SFWs here?

That'll be great Peter Tell him to hurry, the girls down here are going nuts, I noticed today that they are attacking each other to determine the ranking. They all want to be the first one to..... when your boy gets here. I'm printing tiny tickets as we speak, they'll get a number each, no jumping the queue.

This is him today, (also posted under Birds of the Week). He hasn't changed, but he has 5 girls following him. He'd better shape up now!

I saw him today Peter, no change, still looks the same But he has 8 girls chasing after him now. I'm beginning to think that's exactly what he wants? He makes them wait

Treat them mean, keep them keen? There'll be more fly-ins perhaps to speed him up...or perhaps he's just a smart cookie & knows some always want what they can't have (yet)
West Coast Tasmania
you could buy a little bottle of bubbly to celebrate when he does colour up
