when it gets as hot as today, I replace the water for the birds more often . And even if the water is cold, I make sure the bowl gets cooled down aswell, no point putting cold water in a warm bowl. The birds will love a refreshing bath.

just had an idea, might put a few ice cubes in the water, will keep it cold for longer.

Tried that Araminta but the polar bears splashed too much water out of the bird bath.
I hope you & all other posters are safe from bushfires today (& any other day for that matter).
I suspect that many bird bath owners don't take the trouble that you do Araminta. Next you'll be providing little towels and mini beach umbrellas "poolside". Sadly I think there are many baths that don't get cleaned and filled very often. One wonders why those baths were put there in the first place if the owners weren't prepared to clean and fill them on a daily basis, especially in hot weather. I think the trick is to place the baths where they are always in sight so that they are never out of mind. A devoted hose or handy watering can will make things easier as well. In the current hot dry weather my birdbaths are being used by hosts of native bees, wasps and honey bees. It seems as if the baths are life-saving for them on hot days.
