I really wish that people would say where the sighting was as this would generally be helpful
(now that I have got that off my chest, Geoff don't take this comment personally as others do not include location)
I suggest that you have a Chukar Partridge - non-indigenous to Australia
Simpson & Day 8th ed says - allegedly released for sport in Gulgong district, NSW - are you anywhere near Gulgong? - if so can you personal message me with your street address so that I can come looking for the bird next weekend
Thanks guys for the coments. im in sydney in the Engadine area. now you say its this kind of bird i can only assume its either lost or has escaped from someones pen. I was actually scocked to see it on my driveway. When it ran away it stood quite uprigt and took off very quickly.
ill keep my eyes out for it again. Hopefully i can get a better picture next time.
Yep, it is indeed a Chukar Partridge. We had it in our yard a few months back (Illawong) and some relatives of ours also saw it on their neighbours roof (Menai). It is thought to be an escapee from a private collector. Quite an interesting bird isnt it.
Hi Geoff, I have never seen one of them. Sorry, I can't help. It would be a good start, telling us where you have seen it?
(it might well be some kind of Crake? But I'm not sure. We'll have to wait someone will know)
