It is very hard to go off to work for 12 hours after starting the day with these visitors, yes M-L the house id mud brick nice and cool in summer and warm in winter we moved 10 months ago the previous owners had built the house themselves and you can tell just by the lack of finishings eg. gaps in the joins around all the window sills and door jams. The wrens have become very friendly and quite chaty up against the glass windows.
I did a quick tally of the different birds that visit us here over last 5 weeks and have come up with 65 different birds that I can find with in 5 minutes walk of the house.

65 within 5 mins walk that's amazing. Thought I was doing ok with about 1/2 that.
Yes Tim, my place is the same. When I take my camera outside, sometimes I don't know where to point it. There are birds at my place though I can hear, but can't get to because the undergrowth is so thick that I can't (and don't want to) walk through it.
I have just found a few nests, most of them so well hidden in long native grasses and dusty miller, that I can only see the birds go in and come out.
Planting more native grasses is the best thing for all birds.
Thanks for sharing the pictures, Matt. Those wrens are not shy are they? It must have been hard to leave that for work
Nice one Matt, great to have these in your backyard.
Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
Some gorgeous photos of my favourite little birds.
.( Nice to see, you live in a mudbrick house, so do I. Did you build it yourself?)

Lucky you , great pics Matt

I take it you don't see all 65 species in the same 5 minute walk though Matt?
That would be awesome!
Still, great to have that variety around.

And for a number of butterfly species, Araminta.
You are spot on there Woko, today is the first warm and sunny day. There are butterflies and dragon-flies where ever I look.

I would love to see this every morning in my yard. No such luck! But I do get a few butterflies, which I love.
