Hi everyone. I find waders quite tricky. These guys were seen at Lake Cargelligo in central NSW in Nov.
I wondered if they were red-necked stints based on the sharp demarcation of colour on the neck, the white eyebrow, and the short straight bill. Any ideas?
I have attached a third photo for scale with red-necked avocets and small (?little) terns.
Thanks!
Hi, i was photographing at the same place about the same time, or maybe a liitle earlier. Have attached my photo of stints.....yours look more coloured but could be the same, I am not that good at waders either.
The waders in post #1 are Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, the Terns are Whiskered Terns.
Rob is correct in post #2, his waders are Red-necked Stints.
Ah, good I did think they were sharp-tails but I didn't see any while I was there so I was actually looking them up while you typed the reply. The birds out there must change very quickly. I am also impressed how my knpwledge of waders, and other birds has gone ahead in leaps and bounds from using this site....
Thanks guys. I really wanted them to be stints. Oh well - i'll just have to keep looking!
