Found a bird nesting in my rainwater collection head.
yep, its been dry, time enough to build the nest and lay 3 eggs without getting flooded out
I think its a grey shrike thrush.
i moved it about a meter along the brick wall, its taken up residence on the nest again, touchwood it will survive.
Bird would have thought that was a fantastic spot for a nest - until it rained! Good work moving it to a safer spot.
Wow, exciting find. Please give us updates on how the nest goes

I moved the whole rainhead further along the wall, the parent has taken to it ok.
am trying to avoid the area but it is right where my tap is to fill the bird baths.
Hi everyone, this is the parent bird, it is a grey shrike thrush right?
it has a buff/light tan band above the eye, does not seem quite right
compared to my book.
P.S. the 3 eggs all hatched, so far so good
Yes, looks like a grey shrike-thrush to me. Have the eggs hatched yet?

Beautiful photos Max.
Love the one of the female. Do you live in NSW? Because the female Grey Shrike-thrush over there does have the white eye-ring and a fine streaking on the throat. Both come out well in your photo.

Ok thanks for the confirmation, it's in gympie queensland, about 170km north of brisbane
my book does show an 'immature' with a tan band above the eye. there is a carpet snake that lives in the roof space, hope it does not find the birds. the snake has managed to grab a bird in the past:
Wow Max. What can I say? This is one of the best photos I have seen in a long time. Just brilliant. Did the snake come from the gutter down?
M-L
The snake used to sun itself in the gutter, i think the bird might have landed on the gutter
before being taken. I did not see the actual strike i heard a ruckus and went to investigate.
an amazing sight.
Amazing. What bird is that getting squished?
