Yes thanks Rick, I printed it off at the time and have it right next to me at the moment. My bird seemed to have a straighter bill than on the information sheet.
yes knew it wasn't the curlew because of the straight beak, and thought the two colours in the beak might be the indicator, but I needed the practice with my new Shorebirds of Australia that bought in Canberra last weekend so went to that. Pictures there show slightly darker primaries, but sure it is the bar-tailed godwit....can nearly justify buying the book now lol
I am not to good with the waders but i am thinking Whimbrel.
This is an EC.

Goodo! I saw the brown line through the eye but wasn't sure and the bill seemed to be too long and straight for either species.

Reflex,
Not sure if you have this

I have found it very useful for the shorebirds.

I think it's a Bar-tailed Godwit.
P&K shows the Whimbrel with a definate curved beak.
Damn again! I've already got a photograph of one of them!

It also shows Latham's Snipe with a straight beak.

Check this out, same bird. They really go for it when they are feeding.

But it is a nice shot
Lovely shot Shorty, plumage looks a bit different from Reflex's bird.
