yes knew it wasn't the curlew because of the straight beak, and thought the two colours in the beak might be the indicator, but I needed the practice with my new Shorebirds of Australia that bought in Canberra last weekend so went to that. Pictures there show slightly darker primaries, but sure it is the bar-tailed godwit....can nearly justify buying the book now lol

Goodo! I saw the brown line through the eye but wasn't sure and the bill seemed to be too long and straight for either species.

I think it's a Bar-tailed Godwit.
P&K shows the Whimbrel with a definate curved beak.
Damn again! I've already got a photograph of one of them!
