Identity Crisis

Seen in the afternoon in scrubby clifftops above the beach, Newport, NSW.

Any clues to the species?

Looks like a Casurina, an Australian Pine Tree.

I was born to live and I live to die.

I get the feeling there is something not right here? The size of the photo? Is half of it missing? Why is it so long?Am I missing something? Is the question about the tree, or is there a bird, I can't see? M-L

Hi omgecko,
.
I think your bird is a Brown Thornbill http://birdsinbackyards.net/species/Acanthiza-pusilla, but it may also be a striated thornbill. The short pointy beak (which I guess gives the species its name) and the small, almost circular body are the clues I look for.
By the way, for pictures to show their full width in the forum without running over the edges, you need to resize to about 500 pixels wide
.
I think abe is right as well :)
.
Araminta, you can usually get the full image in Internet Explorer by right-clicking and selecting "Save Picture As...", then viewing the saved image. In Firefox there is a right-click "View Image" option I think.
