I had never heard the term PeeWee referring to what I call Mudlarks until I joined this forum. I also did not know the mud referred to the nest. Great photos, Alan!

Oh gorgeous. I used to love watching these guys when I lived in S.A., such cheeky characters (and yes, we called them Murray Magpies when we were growing up - awesome shots!
how cute is that? Is that their nest? Never seen one before.

Yes looks like mud.
great pics
I seem to recall as a Bundaberg, Qld youngster that we called them Peewee or Mudlark
or that might have been in Rockhampton, Qld

Hi Peter I think Peewee is the common name Regards Alan
In SA they're called Murray Magpies & Peewee is used in the eastern states but I believe the common name is Magpie-lark.
Where I live, we do call them Mud-larks, now I know why . They are so common, I have no idea why I've never seen the nests?
Great photos.

Thanks guys
Another reason for one of their alternative names (Mudlarks) they are the most common wader, they walk on the edges of wetlands.
