Coloured cockatoo

A friend has sent me this photo taken in the Upper Murray area.  I'm thinking it's an escapee - escaping from someone who likes to colour birds.

back in 2012 and 2013 there was reports (and pictures) of cockatoo's with red dye on them from a few patches to the whole bird covered crying  never seen or heard of one with blue on it before though

Hi Bridges,

The cockatoo with the blue colouring is most likely to be an aviary escapee from someones private collection. It is good that the other cockatoos have accepted it as often escpees with colour differences are rejected by wild birds. However there is a tiny chance that this is a natural melanism, but this chance is very small.

Thanks everyone!!  Conclusion is, some silly fool likes to colour his/her cockatoos.

Is there a chance it was part of some kind of study?

I know that blue dye has been used to monitor dispersal of ibis(es) around Brisbane.

I don't really know.  Although it is with other cockatoos, it doesn't look too happy to me.  Mind you, none of them do.
