Plover or Dotterel ?

Do they belong to the same  family?wink

Why is the one in No1 called an Inland Dotterel? The one in No2 is called a Black-fronted Plover?

Or, are they different species?

I think this is another case of dove vs pigeon. Last I knew dotterels and lapwings were just another plover family member with a different last name?

Well spotted Peter, we don't have any around here. I only posted it because it belongs to the same familywink. I saw it at the Healesville Sanctuary, where they have a breeding program. (I was waiting for somebody with knowledge to ask)

The black-fronted Dotterel was at some local wetlands.
